A simple and delicious slow cooker recipe for tender, juicy pulled chicken with a homemade-style BBQ sauce made from Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ sauce, Italian dressing, and brown sugar. Perfect for sandwiches, tacos, salads, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, trimmed of fat
  • 1 1/4 cups Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup Italian dressing (fat-free recommended)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (reduce to 1/8 cup or omit for less sweetness)
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Spray the inside of the crockpot with non-stick spray or line with a disposable slow cooker liner.
  2. Trim excess fat from chicken breasts, season with salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Place in a single layer in the crockpot.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  4. Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken in the crockpot.
  5. Cover and cook on high for 2.5 to 3 hours or on low for 5 to 6 hours.
  6. Check internal temperature of chicken to ensure it reaches 165°F.
  7. Shred the cooked chicken directly in the crockpot using two forks or an electric mixer on low speed; stir to coat with sauce.
  8. If sauce is too thin, cook uncovered on high for 15-30 minutes or simmer on stove. Alternatively, add a cornstarch slurry (1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp cold water) and simmer until thickened.
